Structure of Plate and Frame Filter Press 

Plate and frame filter press consists of plate frame, press plate, filter plate, filter cloth and so on. Among them, the plate frame is composed of a rectangular frame and a baffle plate around it, in the middle of which is a hollow square or rectangle, which becomes the plate frame, while the filter plate and the press plate are installed on the plate frame alternately, forming a filter chamber and a compression chamber. The filter cloth is placed between the filter plate and the plate frame to separate the solid material from the liquid. The plate and frame filter press is also equipped with external accessories such as hydraulic device, water inlet pipe and water drain.

Working Principle

Pressing Process: The filter plates are placed in a stacked manner, and the plate and frame are pressed together by the hydraulic system or other pressing devices, so that the filter plates and the frame are in close contact to form a sealed filter chamber.

Filtration process: The feed pump presses the suspension into the filter chamber. Under pressure, the liquid is discharged through the filter cloth, and the solid particles are retained and accumulated on the filter cloth, forming a cake until the chamber is filled.

Washing or air-drying process: After the filtration is completed, the filter residue can be washed by passing clear washing water to further remove the impurities in the filter cake and improve the purity of the cake. After washing, sometimes compressed air is also passed in to remove the remaining washing liquid and reduce the water content of the filter cake.

Cake unloading process: loosening the pressing device, the filter cake is dislodged from the filter plate by gravity or through vibration, knocking and other auxiliary means, and it is discharged out of the filter machine by the unloading system, and then the filter cloth is cleaned, the plate and frame are pressed again, and the next working cycle begins.
